The sixth videoart festival LOOP’08 will he held in May 2008, with a range of new projects and activities. This year, LOOP will feature curated programs, video art collections and schools and universities as well as presenting international festivals, promoting connections between various agents and in particular encouraging relationships between local and foreign artists and representatives.

One of the highlights of this year will be LOOP DIVERSE, an experimental program with a spirit of solidarity that explores the possibilities of video art as an element of intercultural dialogue that encourages integration. Communities of foreigners who live and work in Barcelona open the doors of their stores, restaurants, cultural association and the places where they spend their leisure hours, to show video art works produced by artists in their home countries. In this way, they present different creative panoramas to their regular customers, tourists, passers-by and cultural industry professionals, and enrich Barcelona's cultural diversity. This year‚s participating communities are: Italian, French, Chinese, Swiss, Pakistani, Maghribian, Filipino, Ecuadorean, Dominican and Columbian.

Over 40 galleries will participate in LOOP Fair, transforming Barcelona into a platform for promoting video art and bringing it to a wide audience. The galleries selected and invited by the Committee will present recent work by emerging and acclaimed artists. The dates of the next LOOP Fair will be May 8th, 9th and 10th, 2008.

Each year, the Panels bring together leading specialists to discuss and explore relevant issues that affect the sector. In LOOP'08, the focus will be on issues relating to the boundaries between video and other disciplines, such as cinema, advertising, video clips and documentaries.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN LOOP'08

  • Participation in the LOOP Fair is by invitation. This year's Invitation Committee consists of four people with thorough knowledge of the international art world who join us from different parts of the world: London-based French collector Jean-Conrad Lemaitre, German gallery owner Anita Beckers, Los Angeles gallery owner Christopher Grimes and Boston-based collector Manuel de Santaren.

  • The LOOP Festival defines itself as a platform of platforms, where different platforms present their best work. The call for participation is now open. The Festival co-ordinator is Gerardo Peral, thefestival[at]loop-barcelona.com.

  • LOOP'08 Panels are organised around the title "The Boundaries of Video Art". The program consists of lectures, round tables, presentations and screenings. The aim of the panel series is to investigate the theoretical, artistic, technological, aesthetic and conservation limitations of video art. Universities and schools interested in the content or in offering their students credits for participating in the panels can contact us by emailing info[at]loop-barcelona.com.
