Mauricio Sáenz (Mexico, 1977), The Origin of the Stones, 2016, 4’53”.
The Origin of the Stones questions the ideals of the past and their validity in the present through the decay and fall of monuments built to preserve historical memory. With a text based on a debate that casts doubt on the efficiency of a scale used to record the proportion and appearance of archaeological remains, this work looks at ruins as elements of live content linked to the present and emphasizes the powerful yet fragile nature of the narratives of history. Thus, it mirrors the impossibility to imagine the promisesof a future on the ruins of the recent past, representing a model of a fallen utopia.
