LOOP / SCREEN PROJECTS has presented in Première the video FC Barcelona by Michael Nyman
FC BARCELONA was made by Michael Nyman when he was attending the LOOP Art Fair in Barcelona on the night that FC Barcelona won the Champions League Cup in May 2009. When Barcelona fans heard the news they invaded the streets in an understandably triumphant fashion:
“Standing outside my hotel on Ramblas Pelayo, I was totally fascinated by the crowd reaction but noticed a solitary young woman patiently rolling a joint. Angry with myself for not filming the joint-rolling process I then started filming her as she began to smoke it - but she became distracted by the crowd, her friends, a can of coke. She then started - totally unaware of me, of course - to do what I was doing: filming the crowd celebrating the victory. But for my film, sitting on her moped, she is always in centre frame and in close-up, with the surging crowds behind her and around her.”

The film is edited in a slow motion mode -motion speed reduced by 97%- allowing the viewer to concentrate on the smallest details of the individual and group expression of delight as they celebrate the victory of their Club. Other circumstantial details such as , the symbols, colors and flags of the FC Barcelona displayed by the Barcelona fans, are portrayed with the greatest care and precision, in an attempt to depict an everlasting love affair the Catalonian crowd vow to their Club. The work is suitably accompanied by a slow soundtrack from Michael Nyman score repertoire of Saxophone ensemble music.
